The University of North Carolina Wilmington (“UNCW”) has honored Manson with their Industry Icon award, which recognizes philanthropy and community support from industry partners. Dredging Engineering Manager Kyle Dickens accepted the award on Manson’s behalf during UNCW’s very first “Celebration of Philanthropy” event.
Manson’s partnership with UNCW began when a student applied to its dredging group in 2024. Since then, Manson has deepened its engagement with UNCW through service on the industry advisory board, recurring donations to support the program, hiring of alumni, and commitments to internships and lab support.

As part of Manson’s continuous support, the company has provided annual contributions to the Coastal Engineering program and recently made a major donation to establish and equip UNCW’s dredging laboratory, intended to upgrade lab resources and provide hands-on project opportunities for students. Manson currently employs eight UNCW graduates as full-time engineers, has three students lined up for summer internships, and one student participating in a winter internship.
Kyle, who leads Manson Dredging’s recruiting, training, and development efforts, emphasized the impact of the partnership, stating: “This award means a great deal to Manson. We’ve genuinely enjoyed working with UNCW to strengthen the program and broaden opportunities for students. Seeing so many alumni grow within our engineering team shows the partnership is producing real results. I’m most excited about expanding classroom engagement, hosting more students in the field, and developing lab capabilities that give students hands-on experience with dredging equipment and software.”
Kyle is also a part of the Coastal Engineering Advisory Board, where he works with program leadership, faculty, and other industry professionals to help shape the program’s curriculum, as well as advises the program on the accreditation process.
“Manson Construction has been a great partner and engaged not only philanthropically but also through mentoring, internships, advisory service, and job placement for our students,” shares Senior Director of Development for Major Gifts at UNCW Lindsay M. Crighton, highlighting why Manson was chosen for this award. “We value this wonderful partnership and wanted to acknowledge the time and resources Manson has invested in our students.”
