The Power of Mentorship

Manson prides itself on creating an environment for our personnel to learn and build impactful professional relationships. Our employees are our most valuable asset and their continued development is vital to the growth of our organization.

In recognition of January as National Mentoring Month, let's look at the importance of mentorship in the workplace and what impacts it provides to personnel and the organization as a whole.

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring is a collaborative relationship, typically between a senior and junior employee, which helps spur growth, learning and career development. This relationship can be formal or information. Mentors can play a vital role in a young professional's career path, offering context and experienced lessons to tackle day-to-day challenges in their respective position.

Why Mentoring?

Mentoring in the workplace empowers up-and-coming personnel to strive for success in their roles and achieve interdepartmental goals.

Mentoring builds meaningful relationships between colleagues at all skill levels and improves one’s professional and social impact at the workplace. Contributing to a person’s professional and personal growth early on can inspire them to mentor new hires later in their career.

Benefits of Mentoring

Research on the positive effects of Mentorship shows:

  • Mentors in the workplace encourage and help their mentees strengthen networking and communication skills.

  • Mentors assist young professionals with setting achievable goals and the steps to realize them.

  • Mentors help develop a professional plan for young professionals to contribute to the success of their department and company.

  • Mentors guide young professionals to company resources that will aid them in their roles.

  • Mentors encourage young professionals to pursue critical thinking and decision-making.

An influential mentor can have the power to change the course of a mentee’s professional journey. Inclusiveness and diverse positive roles at the workplace improve retention of valuable talent, new recruitment, trust, and a safer work environment for all.

Throughout the month of January, we’ll be sharing stories from Manson personnel about their experiences with Mentorship.
