PROJECT PURPOSE
The South Pass Maintenance Dredging Project is part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) historic project to clear 13 years of sediment buildup along the Mississippi River Ship Channel. The removal of sediment provides safe passage in the channel for smaller ship traffic as South Pass is intended only for smaller vessels and not open to ship traffic.
