MsCIP Barrier Island Restoration Cat Island Beach and Dune Fill
Cat Island, MS
- Beach restoration
- Cutter suction dredging
- Dredging approximately 2.1 million cubic yards of material from an offshore borrow area
- Approximately 40 acres of beach added
The purpose of this project was to restore the eastern shoreline of Cat Island to its condition pre-Hurricane Katrina. Cat Island serves as a barrier island that protects the Mississippi’s coastal cities from damaging wave action. This project was the maiden voyage of Manson’s new 30-inch cutter suction dredge, Robert M White.
