FY18 Shoalwater Dune Repair
Willapa Bay, Tokeland, WA
- Beach restoration
- Approximately 945,928 cubic yards of material was removed using the cutter suction dredge H.R. MORRIS
- Material was pumped to shore to restore 12,500 feet of dune to a height of +25 feet MLLW
Severe coastal erosion prompted the repair of a sand barrier dune near the mouth of Willapa Bay. This area is the home of the Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe and the barrier dune will protect the shoreline and local residences from heavy Pacific Ocean storms and also maintain habitats for the snowy plover and the streaked horned lark, two endangered bird species.
