Transbay Cable Project
Contract Amount: $11,500,000
Location: San Francisco Bay, CA
Project Duration: 04/2009-01/2010
Manson worked as a subcontractor for Prysmian Cable & Systems USA to help lay power and fiber optic cable along the 55-mile path from San Francisco to Pittsburg, CA. The ultimate purpose was to connect these two cities in order to provide a reliable power supply for the City of San Francisco. The first major step of the job was to transfer all of the cable from the vessel that brought the cable from Italy to the cable-laying ship. After completing this in the San Francisco Bay, operations moved up the Sacramento River to Benicia, where 22 miles of cable was transferred to a separate barge, which laid cable in the shallow water between Benicia and Pittsburgh. The original cable-laying ship finished the journey by laying cable between Benicia and San Francisco.
On a separate but related contract with Prysmian, Manson performed the post-burial work to complete this project, laying articulated concrete mats to protect the cable.
