The principal task of this project was to replace 15 anode beds and the associated cables that are part of the BART Tube cathodic protection system. These anodes protect the Transbay Tube from corrosion. The Trans Bay Tube runs under San Francisco Bay from Oakland to San Francisco at depths exceeding 100’ below sea level. The installation of each anode involved: locating the existing BART Tube Anode attachment point; excavating bay mud to uncover the attachment point and cable; placing a new anode and cable; installing protective gravel and cover material over excavated attachment point; and documenting the locations of the new anodes.
