Project Description
This was one of the first projects in the redevelopment process to upgrade Terminal 91 to attract new commerce. The work involved the demolition of the aging timber berths at Pier 90 and the construction of a new concrete wharf with an upgraded electrical system.
This new container wharf is comprised of prestressed concrete deck panels, cast-in-place concrete pile caps and is 150-feet-wide by 220 LF along the south face of Pier 90 and 88-feet-wide by 1,900 LF along the western face of Pier 90. The wharf is vertically supported by prestressed concrete piles and laterally supported by steel pipe piles under the inshore bulkhead. A 40-foot deep continuous sheet pile wall was installed under the inshore bulkhead to stabilize the existing slope. A high energy absorbing fender system runs along the face of the wharf.
