Project Duration

Project Description
The purpose of this project was to increase the total pier length of the Maersk Sealand pier to 2,200-feet-long to better accommodate large post-Panamax ships and increase efficiency.
Work involved constructing 720 LF of new wharf to the existing Maersk Pier in the Sitcum Waterway. The wharf extension is 118-feet-wide, vertically supported by 24-inch diameter prestressed concrete piles and laterally supported by steel pipe piles under the inshore bulkhead. The wharf deck has cast-in-place concrete pile caps and prestressed concrete deck panels. Crews also installed a steel sheet pile wall under the inshore bulkhead for slope stabilization. Additional work included extending the pier crane rail, a high energy absorbing fender system and utility services.
