Location:

Project Duration:
07/2003-03/2006
Project Description:
This project was an EPA mandated cleanup of contaminated sediment from the Thea Foss and Wheeler-Osgood waterways. The project included the new construction of Alber’s Wharf and 17th Street Marinas.
Four marinas were removed to allow the contaminated material to be dredged and a 36” sand cap placed. The marinas were then upgraded and reinstalled. Before any of the contaminated dredging took place, a Contaminated Disposal Facility (CDF) was built. After all the contaminated material was in the CDF a 14’ clean cap covered the CDF creating useable acreage.
In addition to the dredging and capping, hundreds of old timber piling that were cluttering the shoreline were removed and disposed of, and a new fuel dock and a new log haul out facility were built. Additionally, habitat areas were constructed at two new locations, one along the Middle Waterway Peninsula and one at the Puyallup River Side Channel. |
