Sakhalin - 1 Channel Dredging and Barge Pads

Owner:
Exxon Neftegas Ltd.

Contract Amount:
$10,717,216

Location:
Sakhalin Island, Russia

Project Duration:
03/2006-07/2006

Project Description:
This project involved dredging an entrance channel and the construction of two barge landing pads on the east coast of Sakhalin Island, Russia in support of the Sakhalin 1 Project for Exxon Neftegas Limited.

In the spring of 2006, Manson mobilized the derrick barge Viking and the split hull dump barge, Southport, from Seattle, Washington along with 17 Manson crew members, to make the long journey across the Pacific Ocean to Sakhalin Island. Manson dredged a channel and constructed two pads to enable a massive sea lift of barges to be brought into Chayvo Beach. Once the barges were on location, they were filled with ballast and set hard on the ocean floor, so the barges’ cargo of refinery modules could be offloaded. The 140’ by 450’ barge pads were prepared to an elevation of plus or minus 4”, so as not to damage the barges as they sat on the ocean floor. Manson Construction finished the job 17 days ahead of schedule for the most successful sea lift to date.
