Project Description
To support a massive sea lift of barges as part of its Sakhalin-1 Project on the east coast of Sakhalin Island, Russia, Exxon Neftegas contracted with Manson Construction to dredge an entrance channel and construct two barge landing pads. Once the barges were on location at Chayvo Beach, they would be filled with ballast and set hard on the ocean floor, so their cargo of refinery modules could be off loaded.
The barge pads of 140 feet by 450 feet had to be prepared to an elevation of plus or minus 4 inches so the barges would not be damaged as they sat on the ocean floor. In March 2006, Manson mobilized the derrick Viking and the split hull dump barge Southport from Seattle, Washington along with 17 Manson employees.
Manson finished the job ahead of schedule.
