Project Description
The levee on Lake Cataouatche protects the citizens of Avondale, La., from the damaging affects of hurricane storm surge. Manson Construction began raising the elevation of this vital link of the west bank protection system in February 2007 with an anticipated project completion in April 2008.
When completed, the project will have placed approximately 512,400 cubic yards of granular material, 230,200 cubic yards of compacted clay material and 409,800 cubic yards of uncompacted clay material. All of the clay material for the project is being mined from borrow sites on the project right-of-way using Manson draglines.
The project also included relocating the drainage canal adjacent to the levee. The strengthened levee created by the project will total approximately 3 miles in length.
