This joint venture deepening project has consisted of deepening the channels in the Los Angeles Harbor from -45 to -53 MLLW, the removal of nine channel-crossing pipelines, demolition of remnant piers, surcharge movements, and the installation of wick drains.
The dredging portion of the project involved the removal of nearly 11 million cubic yards of in-harbor sediment. The dredge materials were used to build three landfills, and three submerged fills including two environmental mitigation sites. Containment dikes were built in the disposal areas with 3.5 million tons of rock.
The project also included 13.5 million linear feet of under-surcharge wick drains and the installation and monitoring of geotechnical instruments.
